The day of June 02, 2018. I came all the way to New Delhi to sit in the entrance of MA Political Science, for the session of 2018, in one of the renowned institutions of India, Jamia Millia Islamia.
The way back to my nostalgic years of graduation, i heard from my batch mates, seniors and professors about the impeccable academic achievements of JMI per se as far as the academics is concerned. So for this reason, i got some interest to apply for my post graduation by taking into the consideration of the outstanding faculties of the varsity. I studied with a fine toothcomb of my discipline whatever is suppose to be asked in the entrance as other universities do. This is the very established notion or the vox populi that every varsity, not only from India but all around the world, will asks questions for the post graduation from the earlier graduation course of the particular discipline. I was cramming for my subject where i am planning to pursue my higher education in order to get more broader wisdom of the discipline. So when i sat for the entrance, we were handed over the entrance paper to all of us in the room and we looked after to each and every question with sheer food for thought. When i turned the page after passing over the first fifty questions, i saw the remaining questions from none other than Science, Current affairs, Geography, History overwhelmingly but not from Political Science as it suppose to be. My conscience deprecated to even once look to attempt as it doesn't sit right with me, but although i have to bite the bullet as i cannot left those questions to be unattempted. When i was done with that i discussed the paper with my friends from JNU, HCU, AMU, Christ University in order to get the views of it from them. They all objected the structure of the paper and disparaged it.
I waited for the month just to first see the result and than to file an Right To Information(RTI) application on it. On 30th day of the month, the result was declared and as i was firm of not getting selection, it happened the same. So i filed the RTI "to get the reason of the concerned authority for asking questions from the diverse disciplines or subjects even that too for the post graduation level".
In the above mentioned RTI, i waited for the interval of one month as under RTI Act, 2005 we need to wait for 30 days in order to dispose of the concerned query. With the forbearance of the provocation of administration, i was flabbergasted to see my RTI application nowhere to be found(picture 2) even when the concerned authority of RTI online, operated by Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India, provided me the Registration number and the Payment reference number(picture 1) of my RTI, to be seen over here.
It is to be taken on the serious note that not only the JMI administration but the Central Information Commission which is working under the aegis of RTI act, 2005 couldn't do justice to provide the valid information to the applicant and even misplaced the RTI from the account. I was reading an article in dailyO about the disgruntled reaction of the loopholes in the entrance tests in particular and the dichotomy of the central university per se to be great in itself but totally failed to be good to called a "university".
With keeping in mind the above blunder, there is also an another paradox in the so called administration of the varsity. JMI's entrance portal provided the facility to let them know if there is any fault in the overall entrance mechanism. It is bogus in itself that although they have provided the mechanism but they forgot to let the students know where to address and how to address their grievances, as nothing opens if we go through it(Picture 3).
So, when i saw all this, i was adamant to explicitly enunciate the whole event, happened to me in particular and to many more. There are myriad of students with their own testimonies who want to naysay this established behavior of the administration as they all are hibernated to even take into their consideration. As this kind of laxity will ruin the career and smash the expectation of a student to once study in a good university. The incumbent vice chancellor Talat Ahmed ,who is at the helm of the varsity, must acknowledge with strenuous efforts to iron out those kosher issue with gravitas as it is not-so-subtle in the public domain.
